Jiggerypipery

Jiggerypipery released their second Album "The Drift" in 2003

‘The Drift is a top notch display of musical alchemy and group dynamics in action’

John O’Regan – fROOTS (July 2003)

‘Often Glorious’

Colin Irwin, Mojo (March 2003)

The new album further develops their unique style and distinctive arrangements, ranging from haunting slow airs to pulsating and driving reels, pipe marches and hornpipes, mostly composed by James Robertson.

The chemistry of the band mixes Robertson’s distinctive 60 years of highland pipe playing, learned from his famous father, Pipe Major "JB" Robertson with the hard core, driving drumming of ex Boomtown Rat, Simon Crowe. Blend this with ex. Waulk Electrik bassist Peter Bingham, fiddle playing from Carl Allerfeldt, the cittern of Tony Bayliss and you have an exciting and listenable concoction of highly charged Celtic Funk.

During the past couple of years Jiggerypipery have earned a well deserved reputation for being a dynamic and exciting live act, as seen at many venues throughout the UK.

Both albums have had extensive radio play on national and local radio throughout England, Scotland and Wales.

‘I listened to your album and I like it a lot’

Andy Kershaw

‘A cracking album’

Mike Harding – BBC Radio 2

The Drift is available on Amazon UK or direct from the band

Jiggerypipery are:-

James Robertson: Great Highland Bagpipe

James is the elder statesman of the band. His father, Pipe Major James "JB" Robertson, taught James as a boy and he was soon having great success in major competitions. He featured with his father on several major feature films working with the great Muir Mathieson. In recent years he has composed many fine tunes that form the basis of the band’s repertoire. He now lives in Exeter and teaches the bagpipes.

Simon Crowe: Drums

Simon, from Dublin, spent 10 years touring and recording with The Boomtown Rats, playing at the incredible Live Aid concert at Wembley Stadium. He now lives in Devon and just as he once was the driving force in the Rats he now drives Jiggerypipery.

Tony Bayliss: Cittern, Guitar and Vocals

Tony has played all over the UK and Europe and has written and arranged music for both film and TV. Originally from the north-east of England, he moved to the south-west and now lives on Dartmoor.

Carl Allerfeldt: Fiddle

Born and raised on Dartmoor but of Scandinavian parentage, Carl brings a Swedish influence to the band’s sound. He also drives the band – in the farm truck and sheep-trailer!

Andrew Gibson: Bass Guitar

Devon born and bred, Andrew used to take bagpipe lessons from James. Seeing the error of his ways he recognized that his talents lay with the bass. Andrew now adds his style and panache to the band by cutting some BAD bass.
